Seven unanswered second half goals eventually consigned the 'Fours' to a similar league cup fate as suffered by their third-string compatriots, as AFC Skirlaugh Seniors ensured there would be no repeat of the previous week's heroics in the league meeting.

That said, up to half-time it was a real contest. The locals were left ruing missed chances that came the way of player-boss Foxxy Blyth and Aidan Snaith, with their profligacy being punished by a Skirlaugh strike around about the half-hour mark.

The second 45 minutes is best forgotten. Blyth bemoaned his team’s inability to ‘string two passes together’ and to defend set-pieces, which proved to be the source of four of the hosts' goals.

The EzPats' cause also wasn't helped by injuries to Josh Dunn early in the game and Sam Wardill at half-time.

Despite the hefty-looking scoreline, the manager still found some solace in his team’s first half performance and the individual efforts of the likes of goalkeeper James Dunning, Zach Stephenson and 'man of the match' Ben Jones for their efforts.

If nothing else the game will have provided much-needed game time for some players, including the likes of Ross Derbyshire whose season has so far been disrupted by injury.
