Match Preview v Hessle Sporting Club

The Eastenders will be looking to atone for their lowest point of the season when leaders Hessle Sporting Club arrive at Low Farm a Humber Premier League Division 1 fixture (2.00pm).

United were hammered 9-0 by their opponents back in October, a game that left management duo Craig Foster and Craig Smalley apoplectic about not only their players' performance but also their attitude.

It was something the duo were determined would never be repeated and in fairness, despite the fact that their team remains rooted to the foot of the table, there has definitely been a marked improvement in the weeks and months since.

The locals come into the game on the back of narrow home defeats against St Mary's in the league and last weekend's Yorkshire Old Boys Shield exit at the hands of Wortley.

The competitive nature of both games has reinforced the fact that this is an Easington side that is currently big on heart and effort and with no shortage of talent. That said lack of a settled squad continues to undermine attempts to string together a decent run of results.

Goalkeeper Dave Whitelock and outfield trio Chris Frost, Karl Fitzpatrick and Darrel Thompson provide this week's quartet of withdrawals. Meanwhile, absences across the board also sees Foster only naming a 13-man squad, with he himself likely to be added to the team sheet tomorrow to bring it up to full quota.

On the flip side John Harrison again dons the gloves, with Adam Jamieson and young Liam Constantine recalled to the squad.

Hessle currently lead the table by 4pts from St Mary's, with both teams having played 15 games. Both teams are looking to move clear of Hutton Cranswick and Beverley Town Reserves in third and fourth, although the chasing pair do have games in hand.

The visitors' impressive form doesn't appear to have been hit by a truncated fixture schedule. Since Christmas, handsome away victories have been recorded at Bridlington Town Rovers (5-2) and Chaos United (8-1). This extended the run of away wins to four in a row, with Goole United and Brandesburton dispatched prior to the Festive break.

Overall, Hessle have won 11 and drawn one of their 15 league games, with the last of their three defeats having come at the hands of fellow hopefuls Hutton Cranswick back in November.

The following week saw a 3-1 loss at Premier Division Pocklington in the league cup but since then Sporting have been flying, registering six straight wins.

The locals will have it all on if they're to end that run tomorrow.

Referee at Low Farm is Pete Sugden and the match is being kindly sponsored by Kam Cheng.
